These Texts Will Fill You With Hope #IMWAYR #bookaday #booklove
These are three books that should find a home in every elementary classroom library and bookroom.
Nana Akua Goes to School is a beautiful narrative. I connected with the worry Zura feels and was filled with hope by the end of this story. It is a moving, touching, informative story that students will want to reread, discuss, and use as a mentor text in narrative units of study.
Lubaya’s Quiet Roar and Love is Powerful are both stories of kids using their voices to make a change in the world. Students will learn that young people can make an impact on the world and promote change. These texts layer beautifully with each other and will leave students feeling empowered. The endnotes of Love is Powerful bring the story to life and show kids this book is about them. Both these books will pair nicely with other texts about why people march for a cause such us, We March, The Youngest Marcher, Seeds of Freedom, The Pink Hat, and Sit-In - How Four Friends Stood Up By Sitting Down. I am looking forward to sharing these with students when they are writing and reading opinion texts.
Happy Reading!
