Slice of Life: Pure Joy! #SOL19 #TWTBlog
Halloween never gets old for me! I love decorating. I love costumes. I love opening the door for trick or treaters. It amazes me how many people tell me they don’t like Halloween. They don’t like seeing all the kids. They don’t like all the hoopla. Here are all the reasons I gave to convinced others to embrace the day:
caregivers come home early to be with their kids
caregivers plan to spend time with their kids and have fun
communities plan gatherings to connect
families trick or treat together
neighbors meet new neighbors
adults remember what it is like to be a kid
adults are silly
creativity is honored, celebrated and awarded
children learn to say hello, please, and thank you
children learn to make a choice (and sometimes that is tough with candy involved)
families have an opportunity to talk about safety while having fun
adults slow down, open the door, laugh and connect with kids
I love that my 17 year old knows that he is still expected to carve a pumpkin and that my dog “happily” dresses up to great trick or treaters every year!
I love that students are so excited to share their traditions of Halloween and Day of the Dead. I love that students turn pumpkins into favorite characters and jump in piles of leaves. I love the stories students write - real and imagined.
I hope you found a moment or two to embrace the magic of Halloween!
