I am always on the lookout for new versions of traditional tales. I added these three to my collection:

La Madre Goose is a beautiful collection of bilingual nursery rhymes with a “Latino twist.” I love how the author uses translanguaging throughout the text to honor a full linguistic repertoire. They include a glossary at the beginning of the book and use both bold and italics to highlight the words in Spanish. The illustrations are so much fun and add new humor to these rhymes. Here is one spread:

Girls and Boys Come Out to Play puts a fun spin on the original Mother Goose poem. Readers will have so much fun spotting all the characters they recognize from the nursery rhymes they know. They will be predicting, warning, and cheering throughout the pages. The end pages also share the tradition versions of many rhymes. Here is a spread I love:

Honey For You Honey For Me has all the classics and a few that were new to me. The use of color and placement with the print is really engaging. The illustrations are captivating and will have kids asking for you to read them again and again! Just look at this spread:

These texts will be great for read aloud, shared reading and mentor texts for writer’s workshop. Students will want to sing along with you and act them out in the drama area. I hope you add them to your collection.
